Last summer--under the influence of pregnancy-induced nesting syndrome--I made my first slipcover.
I used a painter's dropcloth, my mom's trusty sewing machine,
and my nearly non-existent sewing skills.
Not bad for my first try--I just stuffed the extra fabric between the cushions, turned the back to the wall, and called my mom to come repair the machine and sew the hard parts.
A few months ago I decided to try again, but this time I bought real cotton duck canvas (fabric.com),
a real pair of sewing scissors, and I settled down to learn how to use my new sewing machine.
The subject was a faded brownish-rusty colored dining chair
rescued from our neighbor's curb on trash day.
The goal was a fresh and sunny seating area for our front door entryway.
(Any tips on getting rid of stubborn, gigantic wrinkles?)
Thanks to a few well-timed sewing lessons from my other mothers (in-law),
and some tedious labor (pin-sew-fit, repeat),
that rusty brown trash pick became this white lovely!

Come on in and sit awhile!

Oh, Laura, I'm so proud of you! I would never feel brave enough to tackle something like this (and I like to sew!) Love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! It looks like a pottery barn catalog picture =)
ReplyDeleteIt looked pretty with the first slip, but very professional now. Great photo too.
