Santa Barbara Yard Sale Success

I spent the weekend in lovely Santa Barbara and came home with a few fun finds.
There was a yard sale on the lawn of the old Victorian guest house across the street from Gram's.
So, unable to resist the allure of someone's old random stuff, Mom and I wandered over.

My first purchase was this old weathered frame.
It looks like wood, but is actually some kind of molded material.

I like it empty and leaning rather than filled and hung.

I'm sure it will be traveling around the house as I experiment with where to keep it.
(And, yes, I know the chalkboard writing is upside down. And, no, I don't know why I put it that way.)

Next, I snagged this ornate old frame and oil painting of a pirate ship!

You know we love pirates around here, so I thought it would be the perfect addition
to Jack and Elizabeth's increasingly nautical bedroom.

My long term plan is to move Van into this room to share with Jack
and to return Elizabeth to her own bedroom.
So, I am happy to aim for a more boyish sailing/pirate feel in here.

Of course, my sweet daughter is pretty into sailing and pirates herself--
she's loving Swallows and Amazons, a super-fun series of books about kids who sail and camp
and launch imaginary attacks on one another in England's Lake District.

Here are a few of the other nautical touches I've been collecting in Jack and Elizabeth's room.

Hooray for discovering discarded treasures!

  3. There's nothing like a pirate-loving girl. Wendy Moira Angela Darling would be proud.
